The beloved children's show Bluey is set to take on a new cultural significance as it becomes the first globally popular animated series to be dubbed into an Australian Indigenous language. Five episodes from seasons one and two of Bluey will be re-voiced in Yolŋu Matha, the language of North-east Arnhem Land, for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee (Naidoc) Week. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Bluey creators Ludo Studio, the ABC, and local organizations, aims to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Australia's First Nations people. The re-voiced episodes, featuring local children as the voices of Bluey and Bingo, will be broadcast and streamed for the first time on Sunday, July 5th. This marks a significant step in the recognition and celebration of Indigenous languages, which have been spoken on this continent for thousands of generations.
